Introduction
Women in general and underprivileged women in particular, faces many problems in their domestic life that cuases enduring pain and agony. Many of them are not aware of the solace/solutions available to them. In view to provide them counselling we started our Counselling Centre in the year 2007 with qualified Counsellors, approved by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. We give counselling and guidance to women in association with All Women Police Station at Madipakkam for the issues - women battered by their husbands & in-laws; dowry harassment; neglect of women by their own families; neglect of women and their problems in joint families; marital maladjustments and domestic violence.
As part of the FCC activities, we conduct awareness programmes on women empowerment for women groups and adolescent girls in Schools and Colleges. So far, 428 couple were reunited, 116 people were referred to de-addiction centres, 120 persons were referred to legal aid services, 113 people were referred to psychiatry treatment and 254 were referred to Family Court.
Challenge
Women facing domestic violence requires immediate and sustained support. Many women have social stigma to approach Family Counselling Centres. We frequently conduct awareness programme among women and girl students of Schools regarding the facilities avilable to them for better life.
